Barriers to Effective Communication.

What is Effective Communication?
Communication is the process of sharing information, thoughts and feelings between people through speaking, writing or body language. So basically Effective Communication is extending the concept to require that transmitted content and understanding it how it is intended to.
But to communicate effectively you need to reduce or prevent the effect of Communication Barriers as much as you can. Examples of Communication Barriers are
  • Background Noise
  • Distractions
  • Lack of concentration
  • Language used
What Barriers effect Communication?
The first barrier that can effect communication is Background Noise such as Traffic, air conditioning units and power supplies, potential background noise in ICT Industry must espically be prevented so that Effect Communication can still take place.
A slight Background noise can interupt the speaking or even distract the audience from listening to what is being said. For example if an ICT meeting is being held and important information is being transferred then it is important that all Background Noise is prevented so that the information is clearly given across to all employees.
If Background Noise isnt prevented then it is likely that either the speaker will be distracted from what he is saying or the employees will be curious about the noise and will drift away from the meeting, if communication is interupted then it is most likely that there may be failures in work.
Background Noise can be prevented by turning off all computers not being used so that they don't make a noise, meeting rooms can be sound proofed so that outside Traffic is blocked out and signs can be put outside a meeting room to show others that they need to be quiet.

A second barrier that can effect communication is Distractions such as someone walking late into a meeting or a mobile phone beeping, it is most likely that all Distractions may exist in the ICT Industry but they need to be prevented for Effect Communication to remain.
Distractions such as Mobile Phones can interupt the flow of thought in the audience and they could momentarily stop listening to the speaker. When this happens Communication could soon falter and the speaker may feel that he needs to repeat the message.
If Distractions arent prevented then it is most likely that the message may not be put across as acurrately as it could without the occurance of distractions,
Distractions can be prevented by turning of all mobile devices so that they don't beep whilst in a ICT meeting, place a "Meeting in Progress" sign above the door so that other people do not enter whilst somebody is talking and close all unnecessary programs so that no pop ups occur, which may have to be closed so that the presentation can continue.

A third barrier that can effect communication is Lack of Concentration such as Distractions may affect peoples Concentration and lectures about something irrelevant can aslo make the audiences Concentration lack.
Some ICT meetings may last for several hours so its important that for all of this time the employees are sitting down listening, as this is when their Concentration may lack the most. A recipient can only take in so much information at one single time, therefore if meetinds drag on for hours, there may be a Lack of Concentration and therefore important messages may be missed.
But Lack of Concentration can be prevented by avoiding big long business meetings so that individuals don't have to sit around for hours listening as this is when Lack of Concentration may be at its highest.
Also having less bulk of writing on the presentations and just including the most relevant points that are needed, in doing this Concentration can be maintain and all important messages can be recieved so that there are no failures in the ICT Industry.

A fourth barrier that can effect communication is the type of Language used such as too much use of techincal jargon and a too much use of "slang" words, the Language used is most important as this how effective Communication is transmitted the most.
Many meetings in the ICT industry may contain a lot of Language on presentations, therefore it is important that the correct Language is used as if its not, then the employee may not understand what is being said and the Communication is not recieved.
Incorrect Language can be prevented by avoiding big bulks of writing on presentations so that the audience dont loose concentration whilst listening, also you need to make sure that there isnt a use of too many technical jargon unless needed because some employee may not understand what is being said and therefore they don't fully understand what the presentation has to say.

It is important that all barriers are prevented whilst working in the ICT Industry so that Communication is effective and points are easily understood and employees understand what to do whilst they are at work.
